Questions
Before you call: accent ceiling questions
By the Editors · October 15, 2026

- Coffered or tray: how do I tell them apart?
- Coffered ceilings are grids of recessed panels framed by beams. A tray has one raised center surrounded by a lower border.
- Can beams be added to the ceiling I already have?
- Usually. Decorative beams are commonly built hollow from lightweight materials and attached to the framing. A site visit confirms it.
- What happens to my fan and recessed lights?
- The layout is planned around existing fixtures where possible, or they are moved as part of the job.
- Does painting the ceiling a dark color make the room feel small?
- It can lower the feel of a short ceiling. In taller rooms with good light, a dark field with white beams tends to read as cozy rather than cramped.
- How is an accent ceiling priced?
- Each ceiling is different, so Trim My Crib prices it after a no-cost visit to the home.
- Who should I call?
- Trim My Crib in Venice. It is licensed, carries insurance and works on homes across the Venice area.
